Don't Forget to Stretch!

Can you feel it in the air? It’s hot and humid which can only mean one thing: It’s miserable here in Georgia almost time for some more Grown Up Swimming!

With a summer full of fun and swimming, we decided to gather some tips on how to prepare for this year’s GUS season.

Stretch and get loose

As we get older, we realize that we often took our youth for granted. No, really, try jumping up and sprinting 25 yards right now. You feel that? Did you hear that snap? That’s your hamstring. What are you doing? You can’t just run like that, you’re not 22 anymore. If you are like me and haven’t done much since last season, then you better start stretching now. With any luck you won’t immediately pull something when you push off the wall.

Work on that tan

While GUS is designed to be fun, you know what isn’t fun fellas? Blinding people with your pasty white thighs. I’m still seeing spots from when I watched Head Grown Up, Brian Robbins swim last year. Seriously he’s like those vampires from the Twilight movies (Millennials, you know what I’m talking about, but for everyone else, the vampires sparkle brightly like a diamond in the sunlight. Get it? Brian is so pale he sparkles). Brian’s blindingly white thighs aside, start working on your base tan now. Mowing the lawn? Toss on the speedo. Checking the mail? Speedo. Grabbing the paper and saying hello to the neighbors— ok maybe put some pants on for that, but you get the idea. Like Deion “Prime Time” Sanders said: Look good, feel good. Feel good, swim good.

Plan Ahead

There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re unprepared for a meet. Take the week before to do things like check the meet schedule for your league, figure out how long it will take you to get there, find your swimsuit and goggles which, if you’re anything like me you definitely put in a very safe place where you wouldn’t lose them…now you just have to remember where that place is.
