Flip Turn Follies is Back (and Better Than Ever!)

If you’re here you probably know all about the organized chaos that is Grown-Up Swimming. If you don’t allow me to play historian for a moment.

Fifteen years ago, a few brave visionaries in Atlanta saw the parent/coach relay at the end of a youth summer league meet and wondered “why don’t we have a grown-up summer swim league?” Thanks to their ambition every summer on a handful of Friday nights something magical happens; equal parts pool party and swim meet, Grown-Up Swimming brings together a few hundred fun loving grown-ups to relive their swimming glory days. But again, if you’re here, you probably knew that.

But what you might not know, is that we’ve grown. In addition to Atlanta Grown-Up Swimming has been growing with leagues in Nashville, Charleston, Houston, and the Triangle (Raleigh).

So what is Flip Turn Follies exactly? Well the kids these days have their Twitters and Tik Toks, but since we’re here for the Boomers, GenXers, and Millenials we’re doing a blog. We know how much you old farts love to read, and here at Grown-Up Swimming we give the people what they want. Unrelated: follow us on Tik Tok: @grownupswimming.

FTF started when our fearless leader and Head Grown-Up, Brian Robbins mused about how difficult it was to pronounce inaugural (this is extra funny because a blog is written and therefore you don’t have to say the word at all). He then went on to talk about what to look forward to in 2021 telling you, dear readers, to “Stay tuned!” Brian then posted exactly two more times in the span of 4 months. When asked why FTF didn’t post more often, Brian said something about how he was headed into a tunnel and I was breaking up (this was especially odd since we were talking on Zoom and I could clearly see that he was at home).

What to Expect from FTF

All that aside, the new revamped FTF will be your source for news and announcements (both nationally and city-specific) including:

  • League Director Profiles

  • Team Profiles

  • Meet Schedules and Recaps

  • Preseason shenanigans

  • Mid-season shenanigans

  • Post-season shenanigans

  • Updates for the first ever GUS All-Star Meet

Check back soon for updates as we get ready to get back in the water!
